Distinctive colors are my favorites when designing and creating jewelry. While looking at my supply of beads and stones this week, it registered that I have a lot of purples. No surprise; I love wearing purple, and some of my best jewelry was created using Amethyst and other purple stones.
Purple lives at the intersection of red and blue. It’s a nice mix of the fire of red and the wisdom of blue. It is feistiness underneath a calm appearance. My interpretation.
Mother Nature is the original artist, and her palette is wide. I was inspired to make my Purple Crazy Lace Agate earrings after taking a snapshot right from my front door. Neighbors Ed, Chris and Josh had a priceless sunset of purples, with dashes of blues and oranges, right behind their home.
I get a nice smile inside me when purple crosses my path.
February’s birthstone is the purple variety of Quartz, called Amethyst. Its colors range from a lightish lilac to a purple that is deep. Purple has been the acknowledged “royal color” since Alexander the Great’s time. And the Greeks associated Amethyst to Bacchus, the god of wine — wearing the stone could prevent intoxication.
Let me test that theory.
I’ll wear some Amethyst jewelry while I sip a glass of Merlot and ponder what to do next with all my purple stones.
Sincerely,
